Backpacking overnight in Grizzly Gulch. After an early dinner, we will hike to a viewpoint for dusk/magic hour, then hike back to camp for dessert and a bedtime snack. Mid-morning hike out on Sunday to get to the parking lot around noon.

Plan is to hike uphill right out of the parking lot, 600' of ascent over 1.5 miles. I didn't need snowshoes until 1.1 miles in when I scouted last weekend. There was enough snow/ice to pull a sled. We'll take a slow, steady pace. Figure we have 2 hours to go 1.5 miles, which means we can go as fast as we need to stay warm, but not so fast that we sweat.
Last weekend, there was 12" to 18" of snow, enough to level a tent space but not enough to build walls or a snow-kitchen. I do not think much more snow fell since last weekend. Let's send some snow vibes into the universe.
Please be sure you will have what you need to stay warm overnight. Snowshoes and poles will be essential for the evening hike. There is one short, off-trail section for the evening hike that will be much more manageable with snowshoes and poles. Another important reminder: keep enough water accessible while hiking to stay hydrated
Please meet at the Wooly Mammoth Park-N-Ride Saturday morning, 2/7/26 at 8:00 am with a planned departure of 8:15 am. It's roughly 45 minutes from there to the Bakerville trailhead. The goal for hitting the trail will be 9:15 am.
