This trip will be the first of a series of beginner snowshoe trips. Since this is a beginning snowshoe trip, no special skills are required. The trip will be about 5 miles length with an elevation gain of about 400 feet. We will take breaks along the way to discuss different brands of snowshoes, technique, equipment, etc. Be sure to bring at least 1 liter of water, some snacks and a lunch. We will probably take a lunch break at the lake if its not to windy.

After the hike we may go Kind Coffee or Coffee on the Rocks in Estes for a little social time and answer questions you may have about the trip and snowshoeing in general.

We will meet at the Target on the College and Troutman at 7:20am. Please park on the NW corner of the parking lot. We will leave promptly at 7:30am.

Required Equipment

This is a beginner snowshoe trip, so snowshoes ARE required. If you don't have any snowshoes, I believe you can rent them at Jax Outdoor. I would also recommend trekking poles and gaiters. I can be windy at the trailhead and at the lake, so please be prepared with a some wind gear; shell jacket, hat, gloves, face protection ( I like a buff) and goggles or sunglasses.
