RMNP - Bierstadt Lake

Trip

Basic Snowshoe – RMNP - Bierstadt Lake via Hollowell Park Trailhead

Snowshoe in Rocky Mountain National Park from the Hollowell Trailhead to Bierstadt Lake. The last time I did this route we saw two moose on the trail. Once we are at the lake we will do an off-trail descent of about a half mile. Be sure to bring your compass as we will practice taking and following compass bearings while snowshoeing off-trail.

This is always a fun snowshoe trip to Bierstadt Lake in RMNP.  The route we will take is different from what most people use to get to Bierstadt Lake which usually provides more opportunities to break trail, see wildlife (last time we saw two moose on the trail), and see very few other people on the trail.  On our way back to the cars after reaching the lake we will do some off-trail descent (about a half mile) which will allow you to go snowshoeing through the fresh snow.

Be sure to bring your compass as we will practice taking compass bearings and then following bearings to get back down to the cars.

We will stop in Estes Park for a refreshment stop after the snowshoe.

If you have any questions or concerns about the trip, feel free to contact the trip leader.

If you have an RMNP or National Park Annual Pass be sure to bring it with you.
