Please join me for this scenic ride along the Bear Creek Trail (5277') to Fox Hollow Golf Course. Once there, we'll ascend, via switchbacks, to the summit of Mount Carbon (5791') where there are nice views and a covered picnic table. Then, there's a fun (and fast, if interested) descent to the west side of Bear Creek Lake Park where we'll ride around the perimeter until reaching yet another climb to the top of the South Dam (5726'). At that point, we'll retrace our route back to the start along the creek.
There are only 4 street crossings. Most of the paths are 3 bike-widths wide and quite nice. A section, from Hampden to Wadsworth, is older, more narrow, and sometimes bumpy. There are also multiple underpasses where riders must stay on their own side of the path. This is a busy route on the weekends, but should be quieter on a Wednesday morning.
Bring plenty of water! We'll have a snack break at the top of Mount Carbon. And, if you're interested, feel free to bring a lunch and we'll eat at some picnic tables near the parking lot after the ride.
Meeting Place: Let's meet at a Platte River trailhead parking lot just west of the Broken Tee Golf Course at 2101 W Oxford Ave, Englewood, 80110. (After passing the golf course entrance on the right, the TH parking lot is just across the river and also on the right side of the road.) There are restrooms within walking distance from the parking lot. We'll use them, if necessary, before beginning the ride.
Meeting Time: Please arrive by 8:30AM so we can leave by 9:00. Should the forecasted temperatures be too warm/hot, we may leave earlier. I'll send an email two days prior, just in case there's a change.
