BPX Trip – 4-Day: Colorado National Monument Saddlehorn Campground

Car Camp three nights in the monument. Likely will leave Denver 7am so to arrive early and do afternoon hike. We will have 2 full days to hike, day 4 possibly do short hike or view nearby petroglyphs.Hike daily or drive to various viewpoints in the monument.

Meet Sunday (mother's day) May 12, 2024 8AM at CMC to carpool to campground. It will be approximately 4 hr drive. We will hike approximately 6-8 miles,1,000-2,000 ft gain. Wed, 5/14, possibly doing a short hike, possibly to a petroglyph and drive home.

Leader got last 3 night reservation for month of May. YOU WILL NEED TO SIGN UP WITH LEADER FOR THIS TRIP. The 1 site allows 2 cars, 3 tentS max and 7 people max. Recreation.gov allows another reservation to be made April 28, 2024, for about 5 possible sites. If leader gets another site on April 28 there will be opportunity for 3-4 more people, so please if you can DEFINITELY ATTEND PLEASE CONTACT LEADER TO BE PUT ON WAIT LIST. IT MAY BE BEST TO CALL/TEXT LEADER TO BE PUT ON WAIT LIST. Or you can send email, lindajagger@yahoo.com, but leader does not necessarily read email daily.

COST IS $33 PER CAMPSITE. participants to share this cost.

Leader suggests a group spagetti dinner first night, then do your own dinners the other night. Please bring deserts, snacks/appetizers to share w/others. BRING YOUR OWN BREAKFASTS & LUNCHES

Hike daily or drive to various trails in the monument and/or nearby.

We will hike approximately 6-8 miles,1,000-2,000 ft gain. Wed, 5/14, possibly doing a short hike, possibly to a petroglyph and drive home.

  2. Monument Canyon - 11.6 miles - 1873 ft elevation gain
  3. No Thoroughfare Canyon - 5.6 miles - 793 ft elevation gain
  4. Ute Canyon Lower TH - 11 miles - 1912 ft elevation gain
  5. Liberty Cap Trail - 12.9 miles - 2004 ft elevation gain
  6. Devil's Canyon Trail System - 6.7 miles - 780 ft elevation gain
  7. Coke Ovens Trail - .9 miles - 173 ft elevation gain
  8. Canyon Rim Trail to Window Rock - 1.8 miles - 246 ft elevation gain
  9. Otto’s Trail - .7 miles - 124 ft elevation gain
  10. Devil’s Kitchen Trail - 1.5 miles - 311 ft elevation gain
  11. Serpent Trail - 3.4 miles - 780 ft elevation gain
  12. Lower Monument and Wedding Canyon Loop - 4.5 miles - 767 ft elevation gain
