The narrative below describes details I received from Landon Mayer (CO fly fishing guide) regarding this event:
Don't miss all the fun at this year's 7th annual "Clean the Dream" event Aug 26th, 2023. This year we plan to clean the "Dream Stream", 11 Mile Res., Antero Res., Spinney Res., and Spinney SWA. We believe it will be another year to break collecting over 1,000 lbs. of trash, tires, and metals to protect the resources we all have grown to love. Come enjoy good company, food, drinks, and over 5,000 dollars worth of prizes from our amazing sponsors listed below.
The trip ends around 2:00 pm at the Charlie Meyers SWA when the event ends.
Disclaimer: This will be my first time participating in this event. I am not an organizer of the event. My plan is for us arrive at the Charlie Meyers SWA before 8:00 am, register, and let the organizers know we are a group with the CMC. If you have a CMC fly fishing section ball cap, please wear that.
If you have Rockie Talkie radios please bring those so we can keep in communications with each other. Depending on how many CMC FF section members are on this trip (max = 10) hopefully we can all do the clean-up work together as a group but since I’ve not participated in the past, we will all need to be flexible, there may be some unknowns as to how this event is structured and carried out by the organizers.
NOTE: If you carpool with me, you need to be fully vaccinated for COVID
Meet trip leader Eric Esswein (720) 693-1656 (mobile) at the Hwy 285 RTD Mountain View Park and Ride lot at 11770 US Hwy 285 Conifer, CO 80433 before 6:00 a.m.
Mountain View Rd, Conifer, CO 80433 - Bing Maps
Eric's vehicle is a silver Toyota 4Runner with a black cargo box atop. Look to the left when you enter the RTD Park and Ride. Drive slowly on 285 Southbound well before you get to the turn off for the RTD lot, the entry is not easily seen on the right side of Hwy 285.
We can carpool to the Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area, note: the drive time is 1 hr. 42 mins from Conifer so be at the Park and Ride before 6:00 am, yes this trip involves an alpine start (well sort of...)
Required Equipment
Plan for a day that could have a variety of weather including wind, rain, cold, lightening, and hot temperatures. This event takes place in South Park, notorious for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Bring a lunch and snacks, and water (preferred: a filter for your water bottle), the 10 essentials, first aid kit, daypack for your gear, sunscreen and insect repellent, hoodie, neck sleeve, sun hat and some form of protective gloves that you can use to remove trash from the river and that can get wet.
Consider bringing waders and wading gear or wear sturdy clothing that allows you to wet wade. If you want to fish afterward, make sure you have a valid CO fishing license.
It may be a good idea to bring some large garbage bags, the event info states these will be provided but it's always good to be prepared.
