  • High Point Elevation: 10,200 ft
  • Pace: .1.5 mph

You'll need to be in shape for this challenging winter hike up Pikes Peak. The trail is well-used and snowshoes shouldn't be necessary but traction devices are a must. Poles are helpful as well. Hot drinks and snacks are available for purchase at Barr Camp but having a warm drink in your pack is a good idea.

I am screening participants to ensure that this trip is a good fit for everyone. I consider this the equivalent of many a 14er hike, without being at high altitude.

If you are coming from outside the Pikes Peak area please consider carefully whether you actually want to make an early-morning, hour plus drive to be on this trip, considering you will be making the return trip after a long day on the trail, possibly in the dark.

If you have Super Bowl party plans we should be back in Manitou by 4:00 p.m. so you won't miss much of the game.

Leader will be at the Red Rocks Safeway at 7:00 a.m. for optional short carpool to Barr TH. Parking at the Barr Lot is $35 a day on weekends but a rebate coupon is available at Barr Camp. Plan to start hiking at 7:30 a.m.
