Hiking – Chickadee Peak

Formerly known as Peak 12,170. This hike+snowshoe will be a mix of on-trail and off-trail into a lightly-visited part of the Rawah Wilderness Area.  Where the Sawmill Creek trail peters out, we will ascend the east ridge of Chickadee Peak above the lovely Sawmill Basin with vistas of the Rawah Mountains and beyond.

The trip stats include a summit of nearby Grosbeak Peak which adds about 300 vertical feet and one mile total distance abd allows the trip to be done as a 'lariat' rather than an 'out-and-back' and includes a descent into the basin itself.  This add-on is part of the trip plan but will be contingent on favorable weather and time considerations.  

The hike is mostly be over Class 1/2 terrain except for a short Class 2+ downclimb of loose talus and gravel between Chickadee and Grosbeak Peaks.  

The exact meeting time will be emailed to participants a few days before the trip and will depend on weather etc.  Expect an approximately 6:00 am departure from North Fort Collins for the ~80 minute drive to the trailhead.
