Recent reviews of the Columbine Lake via Caribou Pass and Columbine Lake Trail in Tabernash, Colorado highlight stunning views, wildflowers, crystal-clear lake, and encounters with wildlife like moose. The trail is rocky in parts, with mosquitoes in boggy areas. Conditions are typically rocky with wildflowers and bugs in August, and ankle support shoes are recommended. The lake is a beautiful reward at the end of the trail, making it a favorite moderate hike in the area. Many people also mention the abundance of moose sightings on the trail.
This is considered an exploratory trip as I haven't been to this lake recently.
Meet at Woolly Mammoth Section MM ready for a 6:15am departure. The early departure is largely due to the long drive distance and time. It is 72 miles each way with a travel time of one hour, 45 min to two hours each way.
