This walk will take us from Expo Park to where the canal crosses E 6th Avenue. It is hike #11 of 14 hiking sections along the canal. It covers segments 19, 20, 21 and part of segment 22 of the Highline Canal Guidebook, roughly mile 50.5 to mile 57.25 and is about 7 miles. If you are new to the area, want to stay active this winter, avoid I-70 traffic, or just enjoy walking the canal, come join us. We'll be walking most Fridays.

From the starting point near Expo Park we'll walk north past a historic wooden canal sign, the Aurora Akimbo Sculpture (Aurora, Aspiration, Achievement), farmer Smith’s house and Del Mar Park, site of the Thunder Tree and topic of the book by Robert Pyle of the same name. Moving into segment 20 we’ll pass Aurora Hills Golf Course, the I-225 underpass and head towards Delaney Farm. The canal intersects Toll Gate Creek Trail, makes a wide arc around the eastern edge of the farm, passes Community College of Aurora, the historic Coal Creek School House, and on to the end of the hike where it crosses 6th Avenue.  This walk covers segments 19, 20, 21 and part of 22 in the Highline Canal guidebook, and is about 7 miles.  We walk at about 2.5 to 3 miles per hour, so even though the hike is easy for distance and elevation, it is not a slow hike.  One or more drivers will take the carpool drivers back to their cars after the hike.

We’ll meet at 8:50 at the parking lot at 15240 E 6th Ave, Aurora, CO 80011 for 9am departure.  Please park near the south end of the lot.  We are meeting at the end point of the hike and will carpool to the starting point at Expo Park, 10955 E Exposition Ave, Aurora, CO 80012.
