From the starting point at Green Valley Ranch East Park we will cross First Creek and make our way along the canal and through neighborhoods before entering Green Valley Ranch Golf Course. We’ll stay on the trail, avoid the cart path, and enjoy sweeping views of the Front Range. Starting at E 56th street we will make our way through neighborhoods to arrive at 64th and Himalaya. This last segment is still under construction. When complete, the canal trail will end at the underpass on the SE corner of the intersection, and connect to the Second Creek Trail at that point. This walk covers segments 26 and 27 of the Highline Canal Guidebook, roughly mile 66.5 to mile 71 and is about 4.5 miles. We walk at about 2.5 to 3 miles per hour, so even though the hike is easy for distance and elevation, it is not a slow hike. There will be an optional lunch at the Gaylord hotel after the hike for those who wish to celebrate. This adds about a mile of walking. We’ll arrange the carpool so anyone not going to lunch can leave at the end of the hike. One or more drivers will take the carpool drivers back to their cars after lunch.
We’ll meet at 8:50 on the north side of E 64th Ave and N Fundy St, Aurora CO 80019 for 9am departure. We are meeting at the end point of the hike and will carpool to the starting point at Green Valley Ranch East Park, 4455 Jebel St, Denver, CO 80249. There is supposed to be a seasonal portolet at the park.
