DETAILS This hike is limited to members who are FULLY VACCINATED against COVID-19.I will send out weather info as we get closer to the hike.Bring your COVID vaccination record, 10 essentials, including rain gear, and lots of water. Poles would be good to have!After the hike, we can stop at the Visitors Center. If the group would like, we can look at the contour table map of the park (to see where we hiked) and other wildlife exhibits.The round trip distance is 30.4 miles. Don't forget to pay your driver. The cost for each vehicle at 30 cents per mile is $9.00, divided by the number of occupants.NOTESEmergency Contacts:We will be hiking in Gilpin County. LOCATION Golden Gate Canyon State Park. We will hike on the somewhat steep, rocky Black Bear Trail up to Ralston Roost, rock outcroppings at the high point of the trail. There is some rock scrambling in this area, but the trail is well marked and not very difficult. Poles are helpful. After 2.8 miles Black Bear Trail meets Mule Deer Trail, which will take us to Frazer Meadow, which has ruins of the Frazer Homestead, lots of aspen & flowers. We will have lunch at around noon. We will return to our trailhead via the 1.8 mile Horseshoe Trail. Starting elevation is 8250 ft. Highest point is 9300 Ft.
CARPOOL DIRECTIONS Meet in Coors Tek Parking Lot across street from the CMC Building. We will leave promptly at 7:30 am, so arrive a few minutes before that to organize carpools. Drivers need to have Colorado State Parks Pass. Day use parks passes are $10.00 and can be purchased at the self-service kiosk on Golden Gate Canyon Road before the turn onto Crawford Gulch Road.
Driving Directions; Turn right onto Washington Ave.Turn left onto CO- 93N. After 1 mile, turn left onto Golden Gate Canyon Road. Go 12 miles, then turn right onto Crawford Gulch Road. Go approximately .5 mi. to Frazer Meadow TH parking lot. There are vault toilets here.
