Hiking – Maryland Mountain Quartz Valley Open Space Park

This is an easy RMOTHG hike near Blackhawk, CO. We will make a clockwise loop, climbing Maryland Mountain via the Tramway and Easy Money trails. After a lunch break at the summit, we will descend on the Summit Trail and hike back a short distance to the trailhead on the Tramway Trail.

  • Mileage: 6.2 mi

  • High Point Elevation: 9,203 ft
  • Pace: casual to moderate, 1.8 mph moving speed

This hike starts at the Hidden Treasure Trailhead, 20.5 miles up Clear Creek Canyon from the CMC Building.  The trailhead is on Hwy 119, 0.8 miles past the turnoff to Central City.  I expect the drive to take about 45 minutes due to construction on Hwy 6, but the construction delays are unpredictable.

This hike is a clockwise loop.  We will have to share the trial to the top of Maryland Mountain with mountain bikers, but a substantial part of the trail is wide, and an early departure should minimize their impact.  The descent from the summit is on a hiker's only trail.

We will meet at the east parking lot of the CMC Building at 7:30 am for a 7:45 am departure.
