Please note the 3700 feet of elevation gain. This is a tough hike when the trail is dry and the weather is fair. It's more of a challenge in cold weather over snow-packed/icy trails. We'll be rewarded by breaking for lunch inside the warm and welcoming environs of Barr Camp where drinks and snacks are available for purchase. Have traction devices and a headlamp.
Meet at the Barr Trail Trailhead in Manitou Springs by 7:45 a.m. for an 8:00 a.m. or at the Red Rocks Safeway 3275 W. Colorado Ave for optional carpool to the trailhead to split costs and reduce traffic impact to the neighborhood. Be at Safeway by 7:25 a.m.
Required Equipment
Traction required, poles recommended. Gaiters are a good idea. Bring a headlamp as the last hour may be in the dark (but great view of the city lights).
