A hidden gem in Wild Basin! Lake of Many Winds is a small alpine lake located past Thunder Lake and beneath the Boulder-Grand Pass at 11,610 feet. The lake is secluded and beautiful. Like so many other lakes in Wild Basin, it is often passed on the way to the Continental Divide and the peaks around it.

We’ll begin at the Wild Basin Trailhead. From there we’ll take the Wild Basin Trail to the
Thunder Lake Trail. At Thunder Lake, we’ll be rewarded with views of the Continental Divide,
Boulder-Grand Pass, Tanima Peak, Pilot Mountain, and the massive Mount Alice. We’ll
continue for 1.2 miles to the Lake of Many Winds on an extension of the Thunder Lake Trail.
The trail is steep and narrow and takes you above tree line.
Mosquitoes can be bad around Thunder Lake, so bug spray is recommended.
Each car going to the trailhead will need a National Parks Pass.

Denver-area hikers please meet for a 5:30 am departure at the Clear Creek Parking Lot, 304
10th St, Golden, CO 80401. Drive time to the Wild Basin Trailhead is approximately 1 hour 30
minutes. 
Northern-area hikers can meet for a 6:15 departure in Lyons at Sandstone Park, parking on
Railroad Ave.
There is a restroom at the Wild Basin Trailhead.

Each car going to the trailhead will need a National Parks Pass.
