On this hike we will explore the newish (in the past couple of years) re-routing of the Bear Canyon trail. We’ll do a bit of climbing and get great views of the park. We will keep a moderate pace with short breaks in order to get back to the Visitor's Center for the program.
Louise will tell stories about the amazing women homesteaders who worked this land in the 1850s all the way through to the women who negotiated the land purchase, mapped the birdlife, planned the trails and managed the park. The patio program is from 10-noon and is a casual drop-in. We’ll try to get back by 11ish and there are rumors that there will be brownies made from a historic recipe.
Carpool: Since the distance between trailheads is short and several of us will be driving, there will be no carpool cost sharing.
We will meet at 7:00am at the Safeway at 8355 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton, CO 80125. Here is a Google Map Link We will then carpool into the park. Cars driving into the park will need a CO State Parks Pass (aka Keep Colorado Wild). The Visitor Center restrooms are currently closed but there are porta-potties nearby.
