We’ll begin on an easy, well-marked trail that leads us straight to the shores of Lake Agnes. From there, the adventure truly starts: we’ll leave the path behind and pick our way across rocks of various sizes, heading toward the broad saddle between Mt. Mahler and Mt. Richtofen. It’s a very short hike and doesn’t climb especially high, yet it delivers a surprisingly intense alpine experience — big peaks, crisp air, and sweeping views, all without the grind of a long or difficult ascent. Easy, not high, but a lot of bang for your buck.

Carpooling Meeting at Ziggi's Coffee at 7:00 am, leaving at 7:15 am.

There is very limited space at the trailhead and the road is steep and a little rough in places but most vehicles can make this road in dry conditions.

Footwear

After Lake Agnes the terrain becomes rocky, with stones of all sizes. Your ankles will thank you for wearing sturdy hiking boots with good support. Trekking poles are also encouraged — they add stability and make the off-trail section more enjoyable.

Clothing

Although this is a short and moderate hike, pack conservatively. Bring layers and rain gear as if you might have to stay warm and dry above treeline for several hours. Think about what you’d want if you sprained an ankle or got caught in a sudden mountain storm.
