Hiking – Staunton State Park

NOTE MEETING TIME CHANGED TO 8AM!!Explore a relatively new trail, the Rusty Buckle trail. Leave your stress & worries behind and join us on a 10 mile, 1400 ft gain hike on the Rusty Buckle loop thru peaceful forests and views of rocky crags & far off snow covered peaks you do not normally see.

  • Pace: 30 min miles for flat terrain, 45 min miles on uphill section

We will park at the Lazy V parking lot at top of the hill. We will start on Staunton Ranch Trail, then after about 2 turn right on  to Borderline Trail, then left onto Rusty Buckle trail for 3 mi. This is a relatively new trail, there are some mountain bikers on the trail.  Rusty Buckle trail has interesting rock formations and mostly shaded trail. We will then turn left on the North Elk trail, head back towards the main trail & road. We will likely take the road back saving us 1/2 mi. Expect to be out 6-7 miles, longer if terrain is snowy. Linda will hike approximately 25-30 miles on relatively flat and & approximately 45 min miles when hiking uphill.
