Hiking – Staunton State Park - West Meadow Loop

A 9 mile, 1300 foot elevation gain hike around the less visited West Meadow loop at Staunton State Park.

Leader requests that all participants have been vaccinated for COVID-19. A Colorado State Parks pass or current 'Keep Colorado Wild' pass is required for each vehicle entering the park.

Route notes: from the Lazy V parking lot elevation 8610 feet, begin the hike on the Staunton Ranch Trail until reaching the intersection with Bugling Elk. Continue down to Elk Falls Pond and take the West Meadow loop trail across from the Pond. Some nice views of the Kenosha's can be had out on the western side. Continue to the intersection with the Lion's Back trail and return to Elk Falls Pond. Ascend back up Marmot Passage until reaching the Scout Line trail, which returns back to the Lazy V.

Dress in layers, warm clothing and footgear appropriate for an all-day hike on established trails in Colorado. Expect winter conditions, ice and packed snow on the trail. Bring 10 Essentials appropriate for this hike, including sun and wind protection, hat and gloves/mittens, insulating jacket, 2 liters of H2O & food. Traction devices are required, gaiters & hiking poles optional, snowshoes not necessary unless a significant snowfall occurs prior to the trip.
