This will be a bike and hike along Michigan Ditch Road to Lake Agnes and American Lakes. We will be in the upper Cameron Pass area west of Fort Collins. The trip will begin at the parking lot on top of Cameron Pass. We will cycle to the end of Michigan Ditch Road. It's about 7.5 miles where we will stash our bikes and do the short hike to Lake Agnes, enjoy the views and take a break. We will then hike back to our bikes and cycle back down Michigan Ditch Road and intersect the American Lakes trail. Again, we will stash our bikes and hike the 2 miles to American Lakes, enjoy the views and take a break. Afterward, we will hike the 2 miles back to our bikes and cycle Michigan Ditch Road back to the parking lot. Total mileage for the trip will be about 20 miles; 15 miles cycling & 5 miles hiking.
Michigan Ditch Road is a very well maintained dirt/gravel road that parallels Michigan Ditch. We will cycle the entire length of the Road. We will also see some 100 year old wooden 'pipes' carrying water that's still in use today by the City of Fort Collins.
You must have a serviceable mountain, hybrid or gravel bike. No road bikes or e-bikes. So if your bike has been just sitting in the garage for a couple years, this may not be the right trip for you.
Weather can be unpredictable, so bring appropriate clothing for both cycling and hiking.
A bike helmet will be required.
More information will be sent to all a couple days prior to our trip date. If you have any questions or need additional information, please email me at trout.bill@gmail.com or phone/text me at 970-222-3398.
We will meet at the Pringles Parking lot located on the NW corner of Drake & Taft in Fort Collins. Plan on meeting a 7am. I can carry 5 bicycles. Depending on how many sign up, we may need an additional vehicle with a bike rake.
Required Equipment
A serviceable mountain or gravel bike. A helmet will also be required.
