From the Forest Service's website: "Located in the Weminuche Wilderness, the Highland Mary area is a beautiful, high-altitude, subalpine basin that is, for the most part, free of trees. The open meadows are filled with wildflowers in the late summer, providing beautiful views and excellent opportunities for photography.

From gjhikes.com: "...the trail climbs steadily along the cascading Cunningham Creek to the Highland Mary Lakes with spectacular alpine views of high mountain peaks and numerous waterfalls to be seen along the way. The hike can be extended a short distance to Verde Lake..."

Meet at Looney Bean Coffee at 8am in Montrose.

Then, meet at the Hartwell Park parking lot in Ridgway at 8:30am.

We'll arrive at the Highland Mary Lakes TH at TBD. The Highland Mary Lakes Trail is located to the east of Silverton.

Directions: From Ouray, follow U.S. 550 north to Silverton. Continue through the town of Silverton toward Howardsville on FR #586. In about 3 miles, turn right onto FR #589 and follow this road to the trailhead. At around 4 miles on FR #589, there's a parking area for 2WD vehicles and we may opt to park there and hike ~1/2 mile to the TH.
