This intermediate snowshoe hike to Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park begins at the Bear Lake Trailhead, ascending through dense pine forests and past scenic viewpoints like Two Rivers Lake. The trail gains about 1,100 feet over 3.5 miles (one way), offering a mix of steady climbs and flatter sections with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. At Lake Helene, snowshoers are rewarded with a serene alpine lake surrounded by dramatic snow-covered cliffs, making it a worthwhile winter adventure. This exhilarating snowshoe adventure to Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park promises a winter wonderland filled with breathtaking vistas and serene alpine beauty. Starting at Bear Lake, we'll ascend the Fern Lake Trail, weaving through snow-draped forests and open meadows. At the Mill Creek crossing, we’ll veer off-trail, forging our path to Two Rivers Lake and onward to the majestic Lake Helene, surrounded by towering peaks. Along the way, Glacier Gorge, Bierstadt Lake, Little Matterhorn, and the iconic Notchtop Mountain provide dramatic backdrops to our journey. Upon reaching Lake Helene, we’ll venture to a stunning overlook offering panoramic views of Grace Falls, Odessa Lake, and the gorge below. This out-and-back trek combines heart-pumping exploration with moments of awe-inspiring tranquility in the pristine wilderness. We'll find a comfortable spot at/near the lake for lunch/snack. We'll return to the trailhead using the same route. Our pace will be comfortable for all group members. Overall, this hike is ~7 mile and ~1250 ft elevation gain. Carpool Place & Time: Meet at JAX West Loveland lot (SE corner) at 6:45 AM, and depart at 7:00 AM (JAX Loveland West Outdoor Gear, Farm & Ranch - Google Maps)

Entire group will meet at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center at 7:45AM, depart at 7:55AM (Beaver Meadows Visitor Center - Google Maps)

We'll carpool to the Bear Lake TH Parking in RMNP (Bear Lake Trailhead - Google Maps)

Additional carpool meeting place could include location further south.
