This will be a snowshoe trek to Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park. We will begin at Bear Lake and snowshoe up the Fern Lake trail. We will continue along the trail to a point where Mill Creek crosses the trail. We will then leave the trail and snowshoe off trail to Two Rivers Lake and then onto Lake Helene. Along the trail we will enjoy views of Glacier Gorge, Bierstadt Lake, Little Matterhorn and Notchtop Mountain. Once we arrive at Lake Helene we will proceed to an overlook to view Grace Falls and Odessa Lake and Gorge. Our return will be along the same track. We will break for lunch either at Lake Helene or on our return to Two Rivers Lake. Any questions please email me at trout.bill@gmail.com or call/text me at 970-222-3398.
We will meet in the Target parking lot, College & Troutman in Fort Collins. We will try to arrange carpooling for folks coming from Denver/Boulder area. Meet up time will be determined later, but figure on something around 7:00-7:30am.
Required Equipment
Snowshoes will be required. Depending on the trail conditions, microspikes may be adequate on the lower sections of the trail However, as we gain elevation, snowshoes will be necessary. Especially when we leave the trail. Trekking poles can also be useful. It can be windy, so be prepared with a windproof shell, face covering and goggles. And of course everyone should be prepared and have the 10 Essentials.
