This is a training trip for CMC Glacier Travel School students and instructors to practice steep snow climbing and snow camping. Team will backpack in on 5/24 on the Barr Trail and set up camp between Barr Camp and the Bottomless Pit Trail turnoff. We'll have an alpine start 5/25 to gain Pikes Peak summit via the Bottomless Pit Trail and Y Couloir (or via Barr Trail if we do not climb the couloir). After summiting we will return to camp via Barr Trail to pack up, then hike back to the trailhead. Please see team trip plan for complete details.
Team will meet Friday, 5/24, at 12:45PM at the Lincoln Station RTD lot in Lone Tree to carpool to Barr Trailhead
Required Equipment
Mountaineering gear for a couloir climb, including helmet, crampons and ice axe. Winter camping gear.
