RMOTHG Trip – Chautauqua Park

We will hike Green Mountain starting from Chautauqua Park. Our route will be the Meadow trail to Amphitheater, Saddle Rock, E.M. Greenman trail where we will find the summit and have great views Of the Indian Peaks and Boulder. Our return will be by the easier route of the Ranger Trail to Gregory Canyon then back across the meadow. This is a challenging route going up Amphitheater with stair like rocks, and on to Saddle Rock which is steep and has a ladder due to the damage from the 2013 flood.

  • High Point Elevation: 8,144 ft
  • Pace: 1.3 ascend, 1.8 descend

This is a challenging hike.  The trail starts out crossing a broad slightly uphill meadow.  It then turns steep climbing 2,500 feet in under 3 miles.  I has several stretches where you will be climbing stair like up large rocks.  The ladder is steel set at a 45 degrees and 15 feet in length.  I assume it is there and the trail hasn't been updated.  something different and fun.  Coming down the trail is not as rocky but has one slab appx 15 feet that that requires you to keep your weight centered.  This hike requires both stanimua and balance.  You need to be able to traverse uneven terrain even though you are on trail.

Meet at 6:50 for a 7:00 am departure from the Clear Creek Parking Lot.  This is at 10th Street and Archer.  There are porta pots at the parking lot.  We will then carpool to the Kinnikinnick parking lot off of Baseline and Kinnikinnick road.
