RMOTHG Trip – Mt Bierstadt

Surrounded by spectacular scenery the entire hike, this 7-mile / 2800 ft climb of Mount Bierstadt's West Slopes Route is one of the most climbed of all the 14ers. It's also one of the most popular First ascents of any 14er. Our route will involve a meander through a meadow thick with willows (thankfully aided by bridges), a crossing of Scott Gomer creek, and the ascent of a well-trodden, rocky trail to the summit. Some easy, Class 2 off-trail scrambling when nearing the summit.

As most of you know all high-altitude & above-treeline peak climbs are serious undertakings. We have to come prepared for any and all weather & terrain conditions. (Anyone else learn this the hard way? :)

Please assess your aerobic / physical conditioning for a hike that gains 2800 ft of elevation in 3.5 miles - at a starting elevation of 11,500 ft.

Apres-Hike Refreshments/Lunch in either Georgetown (Cabin Creek Brewing) or Pine Junction (Crossroads Pub & Grill). Return driving route will depend on on the 285 & I70 traffic situations.

A good rule of thumb when considering what to pack (especially for hiking above treeline):  Bring what you would need to stay warm & dry if you sprained your ankle or twisted your knee up on the mountain above treeline in a cold rain or hail storm and wouldn't be able to get down for several hours.
