Rock Climb – Badger Mountain

Crag Climb at Badger Mountain's (Badger Flats) Valley of the Chicken's Chicken Rock. Various climbing: Single-Pitch to couple multi-pitch; sport and/or trad; mostly moderate climbing with few easy/hard climbs. MUST HAVE CMC's "Intermediate Rock Badge" before signing up.

Pikes Peak Group (PPG) Climbing Members have first consideration for this trip.

MUST HAVE (at very least): CMC's 'intermediate rock climbing badge';

Would like (but not necessary): Lead-belay, rappelling and 'various' cleaning techniques.

Must do: Stay within your realm of comfort/training.

This is in high-elevation (9,200ft); and the climbing and grading are considered "old school" 5.6 - 5.10.

Trip start (meet at car parking area for Chicken Rock crag) by 8:45am.  If meeting us there, please copy and paste these coords to your googlemaps BEFORE you leave cell service – this is where we will park our cars to hike in (there was a gate there that won’t allow cars inside: 39.094894, -105.523160  (~.6 miles of walk to crag from here)

Approx Carpool Details from Colorado Springs (must reserve stop at the following locations at least 1 day prior to trip start):

7:30: (Old Colorado City) Safeway parking off W. Colorado Ave

8:25: Junction Hwy 24 / CO Rd 31

Estimate to be at parking for Chicken Rock around 8:40

NOTE:  There is no cell service between the 8:25 carpool meet area to the crag.  There is very little to no cell coverage at the crag.

Required Equipment

Must have: Personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, atc w/locker, PAS, climbing shoes).

If you have -- Bring your 70m ropes; sport/trad gear; alpine/quickdraws; anchor (quads would be best, so others can top rope routes after set-up)

Bring 10 essentials, lunch, snacks, and water.

Most of the climbs will be in the sun, with some shade to be found at belay stations. Bring sunblock/UV shirts, hats (under helmet), sunglasses.
