This trip will be a casual scramble well-suited for ASC students who would like to practice their basic rock techniques in preparation for more challenging trips. After a short approach (~ 1/2 mile) we will scramble up to the U-shaped Box Canyon ridge and then traverse it with a series of ascents and downclimbs. The focus of this trip will be unroped scrambling in Class 3 and perhaps some easier Class 4 terrain. However, the trip leaders will bring a rope to provide a belay and/or setup a fixed line in exposed areas if desired by any participants.
The meeting time and place will be emailed to participants a few days before the trip, but expect to meetup in north Fort Collins at about 7:15 am for the ~75 minute drive to the trailhead.
Required Equipment
10 Essentials
Climbing helmet
Harness, two locking caribiners, prussik loop for any participants who may want to be belayed or use a fixed line in more challenging sections although these can usually be bypassed.
Highly recommended: Climbing/scrambling gloves.
