Summit 2026 – San Luis Peak - Northeast Ridge
To commemorate Colorado's 150th anniversary, Colorado Mountain Club is leading groups up all the 14ers in the state! San Luis Peak reaches an elevation of 14,023 feet and is located in the La Garita Wilderness in the San Juan Range. This peak is moderately difficult, not because of its technicality but because of its length; it is rated as a class 1 climb, but is 11-16 miles long depending on route choice. For this event, we will be doing a loop. We will start from the Eddiesville Trailhead, where you could have camped the previous night. To start, we will backtrack on the road and turn left to get to the Stewart Creek Trailhead (0.4 miles). Then, we will begin our ascent hiking up the Stewart Creek Trail #470 to San Luis Peak at 14,020 ft (6.4 miles) which is the standard Northeast Ridge route. For our decent, we will hike down on the San Luis Peak Trail #465.5A (which is part of the South Ridge route) until the intersection with the Skyline Trail (1.2 miles). We will turn left at the intersection onto the Skyline Trail #465. This trail will take us all the way to the Eddiesville Trailhead (8.3 miles). We will meet at the Eddiesville South Trailhead (38.02361°N 106.836°W) at 5 AM on August 1st, 2026. There is dispersed camping available here so camping at the trailhead the night before is an option.
Upon meeting, we will do a quick introduction and gear check, and plan to hit the trail by 5:30.
