Capitol Peak

Capitol Peak is a Colorado 14'er located near Snowmass, Colorado.

Capitol Peak (14,138') lies on the long ridge connecting the heart of the Elk Mountains with Mount Sopris to the northwest. Capitol Peak is notable for its impressive vertical relief, rising 7,500 feet above the Roaring Fork Valley

The Standard Route uses the Northeast Ridge, leaving from the Capitol Creek TH - 17 miles, 5300' gain - Class 4. The final 2 miles of the road to the trailhead are narrow, steep, and rough, usually requiring 4WD and high-clearance vehicles.

No permits are required for day hiking/climbing but overnight camping requires a permit from recreation.gov.  The area is extremely popular, and parking fills up quickly on weekends; it is highly recommended to arrive early.
