Castle Peak and Conundrum Peak
This is a 13 mile out-and-back trail with an elevation gain of 5,065 ft near Aspen, CO. This is a highly challenging route and should only be attempted by highly skilled individuals.

The Standard Route, a Difficult Class 2, starts at the Castle Creek Trailhead.
Directions:
- Start at the parking lot: Hike up into the basin, crossing snow fields.
- Traverse the basin: Stick to the left side of the basin and traverse uphill along the snow.
- Locate the trail: As you enter the basin below Castle Peak’s summit, look left for a strong trail leading to Castle Peak's NE ridge.
- Follow the ridge: Take this trail to the ridge and then follow the ridge all the way to the summit.
- Avoid distractions: Several side trails may appear easier, but stay on the ridge for the best route to the top.
