Humboldt Peak

Humboldt Peak (14,070') is a 14'er summit in the Crestones portion of the Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range, near the Town of Westcliffe.

Starting at the official trailhead, at the gate in the road, begin hiking on a good trail all the way to the South Colony Lakes.

From here it gets steeper as you then begin the hike up to Humbolt’s West Ridge.

Alternative Titles:

The Standard Route is the West Ridge leaving from the South Colony Lakes Trailhead.  (Assumes a good 4WD to get there, if a 2WD may need to stop 4.5 miles sooner.)  As you approach the summit the trail thins out, and can be hard to locate. In general, stay on the ridge proper and look for cairns and trail segments. Stay to the right as you continue climb  the ridge and get to ~.25 miles from the summit. From there stay to the right and mostly follow the easiest path until you reach the summit proper. - 11 miles, 4200' gain - Class 2

East Ridge from the Rainbow Trail Trailhead - 8 miles, 4300' gain - Class 2

The Snow Route is up the Southeast Gully, also up from the  South Colony Lakes Trailhead - 8 miles, 5200' gain - Class 2
