Trip Report

Fly Fishing – Cline Ranch State Wildlife Area

A perfect day for fly fishing the headwaters of Tarryall Creek. Four CMC FF Section members attended the trip, trout and char (brook trout) were landed and released. The waters were high and quite cold. No significant hatches were observed. The most productive flies were small nymphs

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The Cline Ranch has 4 "beats" or sections that correspond to 4 parking slots.  Beat 1 is very close to parking, Beat 2 requires a short walk and Beats 3 and 4 require long walks and in some parts of Beat 4 are extremely brushy, there is no "trail" per se, but game trails ease accessibility, but you will need to do a lot of bushwacking.  It's best to have "walkie talkies" on Beats 3 and 4 and possibly 2 as well.   Due to high runoff for June 2023, the water was high and cold.

Four anglers fished the Cline Ranch SWA and landed brook trout (char) and brown trout. Samll nymphs worked best.
