Trip Report

Hiking – Acorn Creek TH - Acorn Creek Loop

Modified the trip by doing only half the loop as an out-and-back to avoid three creek crossings in above ankle-deep water. Additionally, there were reports of a large black bear hanging out by one of the creek crossings.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail is mostly single file. We did the loop counterclockwise, which is more exposed on the ascent. The descent (west side of trail) is mostly forested. Rocks and tree roots on the trail can pose a risk of tripping, if not paying attention.

Good idea to check on creek levels before doing the west side (left) of the trail, as it can flood. There are no bridges or safe logs for crossing.

Ample parking. No restrooms. Make your restroom stop at the Dillon Ranger Station at 680 Blue River Pkwy (US 9). The Silverthorne Visitor Center doesn’t open until 9 am, and is hidden in a shopping area, so don’t bother with that.
