Hiking – Aspenglen Loop

Pretty 4.5 mile forest loop from Fall River Visitor Center past Aspenglen campground with a 450' gain toward Deer Mountain and Horseshoe Park in a more secluded area of RMNP.

The group enjoyed a morning hike without a problem with the weather that could have rained, but did not.  We left from the Fall River Visitor Center and quickly discovered that the nearby horse stables were having tons of horseback trail rides (probably 100 horses) on our loop trail that day.  We changed our loop's direction to counter clockwise so that we would not be following behind horses, but instead encountered countless groups of horse riders coming toward us.  We had to constantly step off of the trail to let the horses pass by.  Other than the horses, we had a nice 4.5 mile hike (450' gain) and saw turkeys and an elk.  We stopped for a brief food break before returning to the Visitor Center around noon.
