Hiking – Butler Gulch Hike

Excellent trip that is often not crowded and off the radar of summer hikers! A jewel of a hike with notable mining history and implements and terrific wildflowers!

  • Route-Place TBD
  • Hiking
  • Successful
  • Road rough but passable
  • Route and trail conditions were dry and easy going.  There were a few minor stream crossings along the way that everyone negotiated very well.

We started hiking under azure skies at 8am and reached the Jean Mine in the Cirque at 11am. We all enjoyed the old mine site and surrounding peaks as we enjoyed lunch. We then returned to the trail head arriving at 1pm. Lots of showy and exceptional wildflowers!  Stats for the hike: 6.5 miles RT and 1600' Elevation Gain.  Small parking area at trailhead accessible with passenger cars.  There is a larger parking area a half mile down the road at the winter closure area.
