Pretty 5-mile hike from Allenspark along Rock Creek through forest, meadows and mining ruins to Fox Creek and the box canyon "Grotto" waterfall. Fall colors were wonderful.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Driving along Hwy. 7 to Allenspark from the Estes Park Visitor Center was on good pavement.

The group enjoyed a pretty 5-mile hike from Allenspark along Rock Creek through forest, meadows and mining ruins to Fox Creek and the box canyon "Grotto" waterfall.  There are places where the trail becomes narrow with tall vegetation along the sides.  We had a snack at the waterfall (light scrambling), then a lunch next to the huge Ponderosa pine tree on Fox Creek.  We saw ruins from old mining activities, including a very deep hole with a pile of tailings.  The fall colors were beautiful on this pleasant day, and everyone had a nice time as we completed the loop back to the trailhead.
