North Fork Trail 12-mile Hike
A super 12-mile out-n-back hike from the North Fork Trailhead north to the 6-mile marker for a lunch break and then hiking back to the cars. Incredibly well-maintained trial with stunning river, mountain, and burn area views at every turn.

Road to trailhead is well-maintained and highly traveled by local residents and outdoor enthusiasts (fishing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, dog walking)
Hikers from Colorado Springs, Monument, Woodland Park, and Evergreen met up and started hiking at 8:10. The trail is very well maintained, had several trail and mileage markers, and the climbs and descents (1,000 feet) are gradual. The trail winds around many deep ravines and allows mountain views from many aspects providing ever-changing views. Shaded pine forest and open burn scar areas and meadows change the landscape every few minute of the hike. We started out at 37-degrees and finished up at 65 on a bluebird day of hiking with only occasional wind gusts at the tops of ridges. After a lunch break at the 6-mile marker (11:20), the group returned to the trail head (2:10) with another set of changing mountain landscapes. The trail was lightly traveled, with only 3 trail runners and 3 mountain bikers encountered along the way. Highly recommended as a trail visit!
