You are required to have a WFR or higher level of medical training to Instruct Wilderness First Aid classes.
This training consists of online coursework, an in-person field day, and shadowing classes to prepare you to be confident, knowledgeable, and supported in teaching WFA.
The online coursework will be shared on Wednesday, November 8 via Thinkific. Please review the material before the in-person field day on Saturday, December 9. You will also be given a sign up sheet to present a few topics to the group during the field day.
The in-person field day will take place on Sunday, July 9 at the American Mountaineering Center in the Mountaineering Museum from 8am-5pm. Participants will take turns presenting different Wilderness First Aid topics to the group to practice teaching, being comfortable with the material, and learning from each other. During your field day, you will sign up to shadow future WFA classes where you will again have the opportunity to practice teaching different sections.
We will be in constant communication with our volunteer instructors to ensure you are qualified and ready to begin instructing.
The CMC offers Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder classes through Backcountry Pulse. All Backcountry Pulse programs are taught to the current internationally accepted wilderness medicine guidelines and are continually updated to reflect the latest evidence-based practices. All courses are globally recognized.
