This field day covers the basics of day hiking. Topics include the ten essentials, tallis traverse, stream crossings, leave no trace, trail etiquette, trail right-a-way, weather, safety issues, etc. What to bring – plenty of water, look at your favorite weather app – bring layers as weather dictated, map and compass (map will be provided in email prior to field day), bring what you have for ten essentials (we will cover and recommend equipment), and a good attitude and willingness to learn and provide input.

The exact park will be detailed a few days prior to the field day in an email to participants. We will meet at the CMC Building at 8 AM. To leave by 8:05 AM, please be on time.

I often am asked about when we will finish this field day. As a rule, we are back by 3 PM. Please remember though this is not a set time, and we can go long depending on questions asked and the conditions of the participants. So no promises.

Call if you have questions.

Carpooling Etiquette

PS – if we carpool there is a protocol for reimbursing the driver based on 40 cent a mile divided by the number of people in a car. So, the total to be paid would be for example = 40 miles x 40 cents equaling $16. If there are four people in the car (including the driver) each person would owe $4.00. The driver usually pays an equal share.

Also we often stop in Golden for a social part at the end of the hike. This optional and is not part of the official course.

The exact time will be decided on the Wednesday prior to the field day.  Most likely meet at 7:00 AM at either CMC basecamp or Wooly Mammoth section BB.
