Prerequisite for this class is Intermediate Rock Climbing, ACS (or formerly BMS), or equivalent experience.
The Sport Climbing Gym-to-Crag Course will cover how to safely lead and follow rock climbs that have been protected by bolts. We will cover how to properly clip those bolts and illustrate common errors, including back clipping and z clipping.
We will cover how to safely clean sport anchors and safely lower and rappel.
We will take a look at gear specific to Sport Climbing, including Stick Clips and Grigris.

- Helmet
- Harness
- Climbing shoes
- Belay device (ABDs such as a GriGri, MegaJul, Smart or ATC) with a locking HMS “pear shaped” carabiner
- Autoblock, ~12-16” tied loop of 5mm nylon cord or Sterling Hollow Block or equivalent
- Personal Anchor System (PAS) or 1 48” (double length) (preferably sewn) nylon sling
- Optional gear: chalk bag, extra locking carabiners, extra non-locking carabiners
