This is an elective scrambling trip for the NoCo Alpine Scrambling Course. Students must complete three elective scrambling trips in order to graduate and earn the appropriate Badge.
NOTE: Email the leader before registering. Priority is given to CMC ASC students. If you are not a student you will be waitlisted and added to the roster if there is space available prior to the trip.
Arrowhead is a beautiful rock rampart that towers above Black Lake in RMNP. It is the end of a ridge that runs northeast to McHenry Peak but makes a very worthy goal in itself. From the Glacier Gorge trailhead we’ll hike the trail to Black Lake. From there we will head west off-trail with some moderate scrambling up to the beginning of the South Ramp. The start of the South Ramp has about 100 feet of class 4 scrambling where we’ll set up a fixed line. Then we have about 800 more feet of class 2-3 scrambling to the summit. Descent will be via the Northwest Face (class 3+) to Solitude Lake and back to the Glacier Gorge trail.
