This course is the first course in the Pikes Peak Group's Basic Mountaineering School (BMS) curriculum. Basic Rock Scrambling consists of a set of skills that fill a gap between on or off-trail hiking and technical climbing. Skills include assessing hazards and decision making, scrambling techniques, assessing and choosing off-trail routes in scrambling terrain.

Day 2 - Continued skills practice at a location to be determined.  We'll expand upon what you learned in Block 2, will introduce more exposure, and will familiarize you with scrambling protection and belaying.  Students will need all the required equipment.

16 Sep 2023 Update - We will have 2 groups for this field trip.  Group 1 will start at 8a.  Group 2 will start at 10a.  Students will receive an email telling them which group they are in.  

We will meet in the Southeast parking lot #10 in Garden of the Gods at 8am.

Parking lot 10 is off Juniper Way Loop. You have to drive the complete loop from the park entrance off of 30th St or you can drive in from the south via Ridge Road.
