Fort Lancaster also known as Fort Lupton is one of four fur trading forts along the South Platte.  It was built by Lancaster Lupton who was born in New York, became a graduate of West Point Academy.  Eventually becoming a Lieutenant in the Dragoons; traveled under Kernal Henry Dodge exploring the west.   After almost being court marshalled, Lupton resigns, gets financial backing and builds the Fort.    Learn what a fur press is, trade and cash values for furs, wages at the Fort, and what the furs were used for.  Also, a brief description of a rendezvous and famous people who traveled to the area.
