CMC Youth Programs offers camps for all ages, levels, and outdoor interests. We offer day camps and overnights based out of our headquarters in Golden, Colorado.

multi sport day camp - MOUNTAIN EXPLORERS

GRADES 3-5

Make the most of your summer by exploring the diverse ecosystems that Colorado has to offer! Each day, you will explore a new area in Colorado’s Front Range, where you will get the chance to experience indoor and outdoor rock climbing, go “sledding” on a glacier, and get your feet wet paddling at a local reservoir. As a part of our Mountain Explorers Camp, you will get the chance to explore the varied activities and types of terrain that make Colorado so unique and special. You will make a field journal, learn about the '10 Essentials' and Leave No Trace wilderness ethics, build “survival” shelters, and gain some of the necessary skills to safely play in the mountains for years to come!

multi-sport day camp - MOUNTAIN LEADERS

GRADES 6-8

Interested in an adventure filled week of learning unique mountain skills and having endless fun? Join us for a camp experience that truly has it all! You will spend the week outdoor rock climbing, learning wilderness first aid, gaining skills in wilderness survival, orienteering, “backcountry” cooking, learning basic snow/glacier travel technique, and getting a day on the water with paddle sports! Aside from that, you will gain valuable insight into your own leadership style.

BEGINNER ROCK CLIMBING day camp

GRADES 5-12

Take your summer to new heights with Outdoor Rock Climbing!  This program is tailored for participants with little to no rock-climbing experience. In this course, you will learn about outdoor safety, climbing equipment, knot tying, belaying and rappelling, and will experience this all in a small, supportive environment facilitated by highly skilled instructors. We’ll start the week learning essential climbing skills, such as safety checks, belaying, and knot tying. After mastering these basics, the next four days will be spent honing skills at various climbing sites around the Front Range. There, you will be taught about outdoor climbing safety and etiquette, Leave No Trace wilderness ethics, practice rappelling, and learn techniques for various types of rock climbing. Spend a week challenging yourself with a new skill, making new friends, and exploring some of the beautiful parts of Colorado’s Front Range! Youth who participate in this course will gain the skills and confidence to join our advanced climbing courses.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED ROCK CLIMBING Day Camp

GRADES 5-12

Ready to take your climbing skills to the next level?  Join us for a week spent exploring different types of rock and their unique challenges, learning more advanced technical skills, climbing techniques, and fine-tuning the essential skill of rappelling. This program is catered to youth who are interested in outdoor climbing and are ready to go beyond the basics. Throughout this week you will advance your skills and techniques by learning the intricacies of climbing on various rock types and gaining an understanding of climbing grades and different types of climbing.  Each day we will travel to a new outdoor location, led by highly skilled instructors, and gain skills in small, supportive groups. We’ll start our week reviewing basic climbing safety, belaying, and knot typing, and then spend the rest of the week developing more skills, learning how to climb up overhangs, on faces, in cracks, and on slabs. We’ll dive into the differences between traditional and sport climbing and learn what it takes to climb a multi-pitch sport route. Previous climbing experience is required.

BACKPACKING overnight - the colorado trail challenge 

GRADES 9-12

The 500-mile Colorado Trail is one of Colorado's most iconic trails. This summer, join the Youth Programs team and take on the Colorado Trail Challenge and complete a section. On this adventure you will hike  miles across Colorado's Rocky Mountains, summit peaks, gain confidence and friendships, all while learning the skills necessary for backcountry travel and navigation. As you gain experience in leadership roles and discover how to manage a successful team, you will become competent and comfortable with life on the trail. Over the course of the week you will move from being guided by instructors to working/collaborating with your peers to guide your group. Each summer, complete a new section with us and work towards earning your CMC Colorado Trail Challenge badge!

CAMPING/HIKING overnight - forteeners 

GRADES 5-12

Tackle one of Colorado’s biggest challenges this summer with our For-Teeners camp. Spend the week learning what it takes to summit one of the giants of the Colorado Rockies- a 14,000-foot peak! We'll start our week in Golden, getting our hiking feet underneath us, where we'll not only physically prepare for our summit, but also gain essential skills for mountain safety. You will learn about the 10 essentials, Leave No Trace wilderness ethics, trail etiquette, mountain weather, lightning safety, and much more all while becoming confident in the preparation needed to hike a 14er. After a day spent in the Front Range, we'll pack our bags and make a beautiful drive through Colorado to explore the beautiful Sawatch Mountains. Throughout this week, you will learn and use skills essential for safe preparation and travel in high altitude-alpine climates and will walk away prepared to be a competent and more self-sufficient member of future hiking and summit groups.
