We are in a time that calls for thoughtful, mission-driven leadership. As outdoor participation grows and the challenges facing our public lands become more complex, CMC is calling for that leadership at the highest level.
Board nominations for Colorado Mountain Club are now open, and we invite our members to take part in shaping the future of the organization we love.
Opportunity to Make a Lasting Impact
Serving on CMC's Board of Directors is more than a volunteer role. It’s a chance to help steward one of Colorado’s most trusted outdoor institutions during a pivotal time. Board Members work closely with CMC leadership to ensure the Club remains strong and inclusive for the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
A message from our current Board President, Peter Hamilton:
Over the past 5 years I have been lucky to be part of a wonderful Colorado Mountain Club state board. With the board, I have had fun, learned a great deal, and made friends. While it is an unpaid position, the rewards are many!
We are seeking board members with a diverse set of skills and perspectives with representation from across our groups and CMC demographics. Whether you are new or have been with the club for decades, I encourage you to consider joining the board. It is a 3 year position and the time commitment is minimal with 5-6 board meetings plus a few subcommittee meetings per year.
Board service offers the opportunity to:
- Guide the long-term vision and strategic direction of CMC
- Support outdoor education, conservation, and responsible recreation statewide
- Uphold CMC’s values of safety, stewardship, inclusion, and community
- Serve as an ambassador for CMC within Colorado’s outdoor and civic communities
Board Members bring diverse perspectives, professional experience, and a shared belief that Colorado’s mountains and the people who love them deserve thoughtful leadership and care.

Why Your Nomination Matters
CMC is, at its heart, a member and volunteer powered organization. The strength of our Board depends on members recognizing leadership in their communities and encouraging people to step forward or stepping forward themselves.
You may know someone whose experience and passion would help guide CMC at this important moment. Or you may be ready to lend your own voice and leadership. Either way, your nomination helps ensure the Board reflects the dedication of our membership. By participating in the nomination process, you are helping protect CMC’s legacy while ensuring its continued relevance and impact for generations to come.
