All participants must either have participated in either a challenging or difficult hike - Ascending Hike Section - or ascended at least one Colorado 14er in the previous 90-days. This hike is an unrelenting, steep ascent to the summits of Mount Shavano and Tabeguache.

We'll proceed directly after lunch in Buena Vista, CO to the trailhead. There are a number of campsites and a vault latrine. Setting up overnight shelter, retiring, and awaking in time for a 4:00am start on this hike. I expect we'll achieve the summits of Mount Shavano and Mount Tabeguache between 10:00am - 11:00am, based on both group size and group strength, stamina, and endurance. There is a mandatory descent NLT 12:00pm. Local weather conditions are the controlling variable to the turnaround time. Our rate of ascent below treeline is ~2 mph and at elevations >13,500' of ~1mph-1.5mph. I expect to enjoy brief breaks at hourly intervals. More frequent breaks when surpassing 13,000'.
