Ascending Hikes – Mount Sniktau

A hike in a series of Ascending Hikes to practice skills and develop stamina. This hike will start at the top of Loveland Pass and include a steeper hike to Sniktau (13,239) and an easy off-trail section over to "Cupid" (13,126)

  • Mod B
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,267 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 13,239 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 mph with 500-1000' gain per hour

This hike is intended for those who are new to CMC, and those who are working on getting in shape for the summer.   This is steeper and higher than previous hikes this year, and also includes an easy off-trail section.

The hike will start at the top of Loveland Pass, proceed to the summit of Sniktau, then head down to a saddle between Sniktau and Cupid, summit Cupid, then cut down and across tundra back to the Sniktau trail and the trailhead.

Because of the high altitude combined with average elevation gain of 850' per mile,  the pace will be no more than 1.5 miles with 500-1000' per hour, and perhaps slower if necessary.  If you typically hike faster than this, consider enjoying the company of others on the hike, or choose another hike.

Meet at Wooly Mammoth Park N Ride Section BB  at 7:00 am for a 7:15 am departure.  Wooly Mammoth is located at 18560 U.S. Hwy 40, Golden, CO 80401.
