Ascending Hikes - Endurance – Boulder Open Space

Baseline hike on the Gregory Canyon Loop, training for 2026 climbs in the Cascades and beyond.

  • Adults
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 4.6 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,400 ft
  • Pace: 1000 ft/hr.

Please join me on a Green Mountain hike to establish a fitness baseline for upcoming training. This hike will be at a slow-moderate pace (to maintain Zone 1 heartrate) with a pack that weighs approximately 10% of bodyweight. Goal is to determine a baseline for vertical ascent speed (aiming towards 1,000ft/hr) that will then be used for training over the next eight months to build up speed with increasingly heavy packs with an eye towards multi-day Cascade volcano climbs. I plan to offer this hike approximately once a month in order to measure progress.

Each participant should carry the 10 essentials appropriate for a day hike. Appropriate footwear (approach shoes or hiking boots) is required. Please note that there is a short ladder section.

Meet at the Gregroy Canyon trailhead (39.99747, -105.29271) at 9am for a 9:05 departure.
