Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding – Red Mountain Pass

Skin up to McMillian Basin and do 2 or 3 runs

  • Sat, Dec 27, 2025
  • Western Slope
  • Backcountry Skiing/Splitboarding
  • Adults
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 5.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • Pace: 2.0 mph

The trail starts on the road up to St Johns lodge and then moves off into the trees on the way up to the basin.   From the basin we will continue up toward McMillan Peak until we decide we have climbed high enough for a fun ski back down to the basin.    It will probably take around 90 minutes to climb from the trailhead up to the starting point for the first run.

I will provide the participants a map of the area and our route closer to the trip.

Meet at the trailhead which is on the east side at the top of Red Mountain Pass on US 550 at 9:00 am.    We can do an equipment check and be underway by 9:15 am.
